Motivation and anxiety of Introduction to Economics students (FCEyS-UNMdP) during isolation by COVID-19

Resumen
En este estudio se realiza un análisis sobre el grado de motivación de los estudiantes universitarios durante la pandemia. En particular, se llevó a cabo la encuesta MSLQ a quienes cursaron la asignatura Introducción a la Economía de la Facultad de Ciencias Económicas y Sociales (UNMDP) durante el primer cuatrimestre de 2021. La metodología utilizada incluye el test de confiabilidad α de Cronbach, los test de medias U de Mann-Whitney y H de Kruskal Wallis y el coeficiente de correlación de Pearson. La consistencia interna del cuestionario es elevada, por ende, resulta confiable. Los resultados obtenidos permiten afirmar que los valores más preocupantes se encuentran en el nivel de motivación extrínseca y de ansiedad, los cuales se encuentran asociados inversamente con el rendimiento académico. Al mismo tiempo, quienes promocionaron la materia tienen los valores más elevados de motivación y el menor nivel de ansiedad.

Abstract
This study analyzes the degree of motivation of university students during the pandemic. In particular, a MSLQ was carried out to those who took the subject Introduction to Economics at the Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences (UNMDP) during the first four-month period of 2021. The methodology used includes Cronbach’s α reliability test, the Mann-Whitney U and Kruskal Wallis H means test and Pearson’s correlation coefficient. The internal consistency of the questionnaire is high and therefore reliable. The results obtained allow us to affirm that the most worrying values are found in the level of extrinsic motivation and anxiety, which are inversely associated with academic performance. At the same time, those who promoted the subject have the highest motivation values and the lowest level of anxiety.
